On Thursday, May 1st, a family-friendly March for Rights will start at the Art Gallery of Windsor (Bruce Ave. and Riverside Dr.) at 4:30pm. Bring your flags, banners, and noisemakers! The march will head through the downtown core and end at the Labour Village at 547 Victoria Ave.
What’s a Labour Village?
The Labour Village will be a chance for people to step back in time and learn about the labour history which has shaped the world today. Inspired by last year’s Living Museum, the Labour Village will be hosted at 547 Victoria Ave. by the Onatrio Secondary School Teachers’ Federation. A stage will be set up in the “town square” where groups will be performing dramatic scenes that bring labour history to life. Throughout the Village, artists, unions, and community groups will have booths to talk to people about the work they do. The Labour Village will be open from 6-8pm and is a free family-friendly event.
How much will everything cost?
Participating in the March is free and there is no admission fee to the Labour Village. There will be a few local businesses at the Village selling their wares, but the vast majority of the booths are run by unions, artists, and community organizations.
I can’t make it to the Labour Village: can I still go to the March (or vice versa)?
Of course! We’re not taking attendance or anything. If you can only be at one part of the event, we hope that you’ll still come out for as long as you can. Though this year’s May Day is going to be even better than last year: you won’t want to miss a minute of it!
Where can I park?
There is paid parking throughout the downtown core. We are working on getting a free parking option: check back to our website for more information closer to May 1st.
How can I find more information?
Can I share your poster on social media? Where can I get electronic copies of all your fliers?
You’re welcome to print and share electronically any posters or fliers. You can find PDFs and JPEGs of this years posters, fliers, and handbills here.
Wow, this sounds AMAZING! How can I help?
We’re glad you asked! We could always use more hands to help on the day of. If you’d like to volunteer on May 1st, please email us at email@example.com. We need help with everything from traffic control during the March to manual labour setting up the Labour Village: let us know what you can do and we’ll find a place for you.
